The BA Accounting provides you with an understanding of the principles, techniques and applications of accounting and finance in a practical context, as well a solid foundation in the underlying academic concepts and theory in the field. Graduates can go on to become competitive trainee accountants.

The programme involves studying accounting, business, finance, and management. You will learn about accounting and finance within an organisational context to understand how financial decisions are made. You will also learn to prepare and interpret accounts, and develop an appreciation of accounting practices in both the UK and China.

Graduates can claim up to a nine-paper exemption from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK qualification; an eight-paper exemption from the Association of Chartered Accountants, UK qualification; a twelve-paper exemption from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK qualification; and a six-paper exemption from the Certified Practising Accountants Australia, Australian qualification.

International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) is one of an elite group of institutions worldwide to be accredited by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System)in 2016 and 2018 respectively. AACSB accreditation is a globally recognised standard for the highest quality in business education. Only five per cent of business schools worldwide have been awarded the accreditation. The EQUIS accreditation is a quality certification system for business schools set up by the EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development). It has become the most global authoritive and select business school certification body in the world with its comprehensive and rigorous review process. IBSS becomes the youngest business school in the world to have received both EQUIS and AACSB accreditation. There are only less than 100 business schools that have received both AACSB and EQUIS accreditation. This is an important milestone in becoming a world class business school and highlights the strength and significant influence of IBSS at the international level.

Knowledge and skills

By the time you graduate from the BA Accounting, you will have:

  • a solid understanding of the technical language and practices of accounting and finance, such as financial and managerial accounting, auditing, and taxation;
  • the skills to record and summarise transactions, prepare financial statements and forecasts, and analyse business operations;
  • the ability to evaluate the performance and financial situation of organisations
  • the knowledge to select and apply appropriate accounting and financial management tools to support organisational planning, decision-making, and control.

In addition to entering the accounting profession, graduates from this programme can find employment in positions such as stockbroker, investment banker, and insurance broker, or in roles in the commerce industry or in public service.

Prior to moving into academia, Sun Liu worked for China Merchant Bank as accountant for four years. He joined IBSS in 2011 after completing his PhD in Accountancy at University of Aberdeen.
