Our academic reputation

Study with us

We are a pioneering, international joint venture university located in the city of Suzhou on China's east coast. We are proud of our focus on research-led learning inherited from our parent institutions, the University of Liverpool and Xi'an Jiaotong University.

In the 2019 QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) rankings of Mainland China universities we have been ranked at number 79 among some of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the country.

Xi’an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool were far ahead of the curve in terms of the visioning of this unique partnership.

Our business school is the youngest ever to earn AACSB International accreditation and we were the first in China to gain unconditional Part 1 accreditation from RIBA for our architecture degree. We also have accreditation from the JBM for our civil engineering programmes and the IET for our electrical and electronic engineering degrees.

Academic staff

To further strengthen our reputation, we uphold high standards in hiring academic staff. All must have been trained at globally distinguished universities and research institutes and have rich teaching and research experience. Collectively they bring an enormous range of expertise and innovative thinking to XJTLU.

To ensure we make effective use of our talented staff, we have established a number of interdisciplinary research institutes, centres and laboratories, focussing on topics ranging from biopharmaceutical science to design, and from quantitative finance to urbanisation.
